The Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System
developed by the U.S. Green Building Council is the nationally
accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of
high performance green buildings. The LEED rating system offers
four certification levels for new construction (mainly
commercial at this time, residential is being developed) – 1)
Certified; 2)Silver; 3)Gold and 4) Platinum. Credits are issued
in the five green design categories. LEED promotes a
whole-building approach by recognizing performance in the key
areas: Site Planning, Water Management, Energy Management,
Material Use and Indoor Air Quality and Innovation & Design
Process. LEED offers environmental benefits, reduces the impact
on natural resources consumption, enhances occupant comfort and
health and minimizes strain on the local infrastructure.
In recent years, modular home green building techniques and
standards have received greater attention. Classic Carolina
Homes modular construction provides a natural “green building”
choice. Classic Carolina Homes in conjunction with Simplex
Industries strives to achieve some level of the Green Building
Standard in every “green built” home. Homeowners choosing the
“green built” standard will find that Classic Carolina Homes is
a leader in the “green building movement”. Many of the “green
building” standards recognized by the National Association of
Home Builders, are inherent in modular construction. Modular
homes are naturally more energy efficient, reduce waste and
provide superior indoor air quality.
